POSITION/TITLE: SOCIAL WORKER
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools and Building Principals
SUPERVISES: not applicable
JOB GOALS: Social Worker is a specialized practice of professional counseling that supports the well-being,
academic success, and lifelong achievement and mental health of students. In meeting these efforts he/she should be in
compliance with, and keep administration informed of: federal, state and local guidelines and regulations. In this position
he/she is will serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and community agencies to advocate for a
healthy school environment and the ultimate health and safety of the students and staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree in Social Work
2. Licensed as a Social Worker in the State of Michigan, certified in Social Work
3. Related job experience encompassing some of the following areas:
a. School operation practices
b. State & Federal laws and codes
c. Community relations
d. Knowledge of school-wide behavior interventions support systems
e. Knowledge and skills of child development and educational disabilities
4. Possess good interpersonal and communication skills

RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY:
1. Provide direct and indirect social work services to individual, small-groups, and large groups of students.
2. Work collaboratively and consult with teaching and administrative staff regarding students social/emotional and
behavioral challenges.
3. Collaborate with staff, families, and outside community support services to support continuity of care.
4. Facilitate group lessons involving all students to enhance social development and/or provide support in areas
such as self-regulation, grief, anxiety, anger management, and/or social skills.
5. Partner with staff to de-escalate student behavior.
6. Support the social-emotional learning and trauma-informed school-wide practices.
7. Partner with staff to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments, write Success Plans, and monitor fidelity of plan
implementation.
8. Support implementation of school-side MTSS/PBIS.
9. Screen, assess, refer, connect, and support students and families in navigating systems and services.
10. Coordinate and support provision of professional learning for district/building staff around non-academic
indicators such as trauma informed classrooms, mindfulness, etc.
11. Follow and administer Michigan Center Schools Board of Education health policies and programs.
12. Provide Crisis Intervention counseling in emergency situations
13. Provide referrals to outside agencies or therapists is additional counseling services are required.
14. Participate in assessment meetings to determine whether a student has a learning disability or requires placement
in special education classes
a. Participate in IEP meetings
b. Discuss student’s disability with teacher, school professional, and related services to ensure student’s
needs are adequately met.
c. Compile psychosocial history detailing important biological psychological, and social influences in
student’s life.
15. Provide education to students and staff on a variety of important biological, psychological, and social topics,
including health and wellness, bullying, substance abuse, and violence prevention
16. Use clinical judgment in providing case management services. Report all home visits to administration.
17. Develop partnerships within the school community to ensure students and families receive access to human
services, health care, social services, and mental health supports in order to meet needs and support student
achievement.
18. Meet on a regular basis with school Principals and other building leadership to review needed supports/services
and address issues impacting student achievement.
19. Coordinate staff-wellness activities
20. Performs other duties as assigned by building administration.
21. Agrees to perform all duties in an organized, competent, and efficient manner.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: At will employment. Exempt status. Work Schedule is a minimum of seven (7)
hours per day beginning three (3) days prior to the first staff day (as designated on the school calendar) continuing
through all staff days, plus three (3) days after the last staff day.
PAY RANGE: Per MCEA salary schedule. See attached.
EVALUATION: The Social Worker shall be evaluated annually on a written basis by the Building Principals.
